Did anyone notice this penalty which eerily mirrored the Lions 3rd Test controversy?

If you cast your mind back a few month to the Lions series, you’ll remember the decision by Romain Poite not to award a penalty but to instead award an accidental offside in the final minutes.

It was a massive controversy of course.

Well during the Rugby Championship there was a decision that went against Eben Etzebeth that errily mirrored the moment – everything apart from the decision that is. Garces correctly rules it as a offside at a knock-on.

Sickener.

That said, if you wanted to be really difficult, you could argue, as this video seems to show, that the Lions Third Test ball did in fact go backwards and wasn’t actually a knock-on.
