Chris Boyd gives brilliantly dry response to Prem fixtures

Chris Boyd gold right here.

The announcement of the 2019/20 Premiership fixtures has proved to be a topic that has split opinion amongst fans on social media. While some are excited to see what the season ahead has in store for some teams, others are fairly indifferent.

Northampton Saints head coach Chris Boyd seems to fall into the latter camp. The New Zealander seems to be of the opinion that every team needs to play each other twice, saying: “After some careful study we discovered that we play every team twice – once at home, once away. That was a big surprise for us.”

Of course, the former Hurricanes boss is being sarcastic, but there will be many fans that are in agreement with him.

Harlequins can announce today that Mark Mapletoft will transition from his current role to take over as Academy Coach.

Alongside his new role Mark will assist with coach mentoring and continue to support sections of the professional rugby environment.

After nine years with the Senior Team serving as Backs Coach, Attack Coach and most recently Head Coach, Mark has decided to step away from the First Team environment to concentrate his skillset on pathway development and coach education.

Mark explained: “I am passionate about the whole coaching spectrum and this is a great opportunity for me to develop my skills and knowledge in another area.

“Player development is central to that and this presents the opportunity for me to continue developing our Harlequins Academy as well as our elite performance pathway. The impact this area has on our sustainable success is massive and I’m really looking forward to working with Chim and the rest of the team to ensure the production line remains strong.

“Gussy has done a fantastic job in his first season and I know we have the ability and mindset to challenge for honours this year.
