Mako Vunipola stuns teammates at Lions training

British and Irish Lions loosehead Mako Vunipola stunned his his teammates at training last week with his kicking skills.

Ahead of the Lions’ first match of 2021 against Japan at BT Murrayfield, the players were training on the pitch and were inevitably practicing their kicking. The England prop stepped up to take a kick from the 40 metre line and 15 metres in from the touchline, which is out of the range of many Test goal kickers.

Vunipola was met by heckles from his Saracens and England teammate Owen Farrell as he was lining up the kick, but left teammates shocked as the ball looked to be sailing over the posts. The ball eventually dropped just short of the crossbar to spare Farrell and his fellow kickers any embarrassment, but Vunipola definitely made a good account of himself. Even with the added bonus of altitude in South Africa, the Saracen will need to do a lot more before he is lining up kicks against the Springboks though.
