Scenes in South Africa airport as Springboks return home to massive crowds

There were absolute scenes in South Africa today as the Springboks returned home from Japan.

Thousands of fans waited for the World Cup Champions to arrive at Terminal 1 and they weren’t disappointed as the players greeted the thousands of adoring fans with open arms.

The men in green returned home after a dominant victory in Japan over England which saw them win their 3rd World Cup title, making them the most successful team in World Cup history.

South Africa put in a clinical performance against the English, using box kick after box kick to grind through a 20 point victory.

Pieter-Steph du Toit, voted World Rugby Player of the Year two days ago, and scrumhalf Faf de Klerk were among some  the first players to arrive back into South Africa.

The victorious squad, coaches and officials are scheduled to return between Tuesday and Wednesday as no airline could accommodate the entire group on one flight, meaning that we only saw a handful of the players arriving.

More players shall arrive as the week goes on.

Captain Siya Kolisi and coach Rassie Erasmus are among a group expected to arrive in Johannesburg later on Tuesday and we will try and get a video of that for you.

South African of all ages packed into the airport in Johansaberg to greet the players, a symbol of the unifying effect that wiining this tournament has had on the nation.

Here is the video of the players arriving back at the airport.

Look at the emotion on the players, they arrived like they were rock stars and you can’t blame them after the performance that they put on during this tournament. We can’t even imagine how mad the scenes will be when the likes of Siya Kolisi and Faf de Klerk arrive back in the country.
