Rassie is asked is he Jaco Johan

Springboks director of rugby Rassie Erasmus has denied the widespread theory that he is also vocal Twitter Lions critic and video editing aficionado Jaco Johan.

Erasmus inevitably faced a barrage of questions regarding the bizarre Twitter account on Tuesday, and he responded by saying that Johan is a “big supporter” of the Springboks. On top of that, not only does Johan exist, but he is “a really funny guy” according to the World Cup winning coach.

He said: “That’s actually why I’m here: no I’m actually not Jaco Johan, I’m Johan Erasmus.

“I actually follow Jaco Johan, he’s a big supporter of us. He’s been feeding me some really good clips for a while now, things that I’ve actually used in the past.

“He’s a very big supporter, a really funny guy and I quite enjoy the things that he does.

“I think I just retweeted two or three things I thought were accurate.

“So it was only those two tweets, and then obviously I did retweet a few things that I thought were spot-on. When something makes sense to me I like to retweet it.”

Regardless of whether Johan exists or not, this has been a perfect way of deflecting the attention away from the Springboks team this week as they build up to the second Test. Having lost last week against the Lions, it is do or die for Jacques Nienaber’s side, and they will be thankful that Johan, whoever he is, has sacrificed himself.
