Red card! Shocking face stamp sees Mike Brown sent off

Mike Brown lived by the sword at Harlequins and now he’s died by it as well, after he was red carded by alpha ref Wayne Barnes at the Stoop today.

Brown will probably never play for Quins again as his ban for the incident will undoubtedly take him to the end of the season.

Really, you don’t know whether to laugh or cry. ‘Oh dear’ indeed Mr Dallaglio.

Brown, who has built a career on being in your face and scrapping, still has plenty of fight left in him, but even by his standards, this one is out there.

Hardcore Quins fans will try to argue that he was unbalanced but the video appears to show him actually finding his feet before delivering the stamp. It’s not a good look.

“Mike is a top-quality player who is right up there as the form full-back in England at the moment, and it’s a brilliant signing for us,” said Falcons DoR Dean Richards about Brown, who will play for Newcastle Falcons next year. “He keeps himself in incredible shape, his levels of professionalism are extremely high and everybody knows about his ability.

“He’s got everything you want from a full-back – great under the high ball, big boot, fabulous counter-attacker and knows his way to the try-line.

“He can look after himself, which I like, and having worked with him previously I just know he’ll be a great fit who will add to the team while helping bring through our talented youngsters.”
