The moment when Billy Vunipola thought he had missed out on a Lions tour spot

Back in 2017, the players that played in the Lions Tour didn’t find out that they were selected from the head coach. They found out instead from a live broadcast on TV! Billy Vunipola was one of these men.

The Lions announced their team that would tour New Zealand in 2017.

Billy Vunipola at the time was in the form of his life for England and Saracens and he was expected to start for the men in red in in the massive test matches against New Zealand.

Billy Vunipola looked confused as his name was not read out in the expected order…

The Saracens rugby team filmed as the whole club gathered to hear who had been selected to play for the Saracens team.

The Lions team was read out one by one, but for some reason Mako Vunipola had been named after the forwards had been read out.

This led Billy Vunipola to believe that he had in fact missed out on selection for the historic team!

You could see the confusion on his face as his name was not read out at the expected time.

Gallagher Premiership leaders Exeter have reiterated their ambition to finish the indefinitely suspended 2019/20 season. The call came from Chiefs CEO Tony Rowe, who said there was still a ‘real desire’ to complete the campaign in which they are currently five points clear at the top of the table.

Exeter have not played a Premiership fixture since beating Bath 57-20 at Sandy Park back on March 7, but multi-millionaire owner Rowe is positive that a return to competitive action may not be that far away
