WATCH: Ridiculous red card hijacks French chances against the All Blacks

With just under 12 minutes gone on the clock, the game was all but over through a rather ridiculous red card.

In a game were dominating, fullback Benjamin Fall chases an up and under with his eye’s clearly fixed on the ball and accidentally collides with Beauden Barrett.

Fall instantly received a red card, ultimately ending the game as a contest.

Under the letter of the law, since fall doesn’t leave the ground means the onus is on him to ensure Barrett has a safe landing space.

In this instance, Fall didn’t have an opportunity to jump as Barrett is on top of him at the moment he is about to leave the ground.

Intent needs to become a factor in refereeing decisions in instances like this.
