Butch James disrepects the Haka live on South African TV
Springboks legend Butch James has disrespected the Haka on South African TV, admitting that at times he struggled to contain his laughter watching it.
You can’t say this Butch! Out of line my friend.
Butch James won over 100 caps for the Sprang Okes in a career that lasted less than a year, so his take on the Haka is valuable.
Many remember his penchant for high tackling people but he also probably kicked a few goals too. He faced Haka and he says he ‘woke up thinking about it’.
Listen here to what he says. It will anger All Blacks fans for sure because they are among sport’s worst fans and they take themselves very seriously.
Anyway, we back Butch and his awful take on the Haka! After all he was such an alpha that they had to give him two first names.
In their opening test of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship on Saturday at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and assistant coach Mzwandile Stick predicted an epic matchup against their bitter rivals New Zealand and claimed there was no greater challenge for the All Blacks to rise to.
Kolisi and Stick acknowledged that there was little difference in their preparation for this match than for any other international, but they both believed that the animosity between both teams was unique. The Springboks and All Blacks have a long history extending back over 100 Test matches.
“These games are massive,” said Stick. “They are one of the biggest in the rugby world. So, as a team we would like to execute our game plan effectively, and the team that does it the best for 80 to 82 minutes, will be the best.”
“If you switch off a little against them, they could easily score two tries against you, so we know we are up against a world class side, and as a team we respect the rivalry between these rugby nations.”
