The worst TMO decisions of all time
The TMO gets it right – most of the time, but sometimes they get it horribly wrong.
We at Rugby Onslaught feel it is our duty to lay bare some of these horrendous injustices for the world to see. We’ve listed below some of the times that the TMO got it terribly wrong – on the biggest stage of all.
Jonny Wilkinson soars like an eagle for ghost try at Twickenham
This looked incredible but there is no way, ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that this try should have stood.
The England hero was making his comeback match after a long injury lay off and gave an incredible solo performance – bagging himself 28 points. It should have been 21.
Looks like the TMO, like half of the England fans at the time, still had a poster of Sir Jonny on their bedroom walls.
Referee blunder gifts All Blacks a try vs France
This one is pretty diabolical.
Another official who is scared to defy the All Blacks on their own patch. We’ll let you see this one for yourself – needs no description.
CJ Stander red card for accidental hit on Pat Lambie
Look, I’m a just man. I can see that this hit looks absolutely terrible but surely it was accidental? Eyes close – looking away – body turned.
We see as CJ Stander goes to charge down a chip attempt from Springbok fly-half Pat Lambie.
The head to hip collision actually turned out to be devastating for the young playmaker who never really recovered from this knock.
TMO doesn’t give Gareth Anscombe try vs England at Twickenham
This was surely a try for Gareth Anscombe?
We see as he chases this bouncing ball in the in-ball area as Anthony Watson challenges to dot it down first.
The slow-motion replays show that it was a try and that Wales were most probably robbed of a famous victory at the home of English rugby.
