How to accidentally produce the greatest offload of all time
Ask him and he might tell you it was intentional, and there are plenty of people online who seem to be of that opinion, but it is hard to see how the United States’ Aaron Cummings meant to offload in the build up to Marcus Tupuola’s try at the weekend.
Up against South Africa in the bronze final of the Cape Town Sevens, the USA opened the scoring courtesy of some fancy offloading. It looked out of this world, but it was probably an accident.
The move saw Tupuola switch with Cummings, who attempted to catch the ball at his shoulder, but looked to have dropped it backwards. However, teammate Malacchi Esdale was looping round to collect the ball before landing, who then in turn gave it back to Tupuola for the try. If it was intentional, it was one of the slickest moves the game has ever seen. If it was accidental, it is maybe even more impressive that it came off.
This was on the way to the USA winning 22-14.
