Major rift between England star and Gloucester teammate caught on camera

All wingers want to score tries – it’s part of their DNA – and maybe none more so than England and Gloucester try machine Jonny May.

The 32-year-old is not second on England’s list of all time try scorers for no reason, but his desire to score tries maybe boiled over on Friday night against Saracens at Kingsholm.

May’s eyes would have lit up in the first half when his fellow winger Ollie Thorley broke through Saracens’ defence. With scrum-half Aled Davies running across the pitch to tackle Thorley, May was on hand to run in for a try. However, Thorley was able to break through the tackle of Davies and make his way towards the line. Even then, Ben Earl made a covering tackle to bring Thorley to ground just metres from the line, and May was there for the ball to be popped up. But again, the No11 was able to scramble and get the ball over the line for the try.

Seeing as May had spent almost the entirety of Thorley’s 50 metre run with his arms out waving the ball, he was clearly not happy, and it showed. As Thorley’s Gloucester teammates ran towards him to congratulate him, May can be seen storming back towards the halfway line after just patting him on the shoulder.

This is not exactly the camaraderie that May wanted to show in front of England’s head coach Steve Borthwick, who was sat in the stands. Then again, May will be acutely aware that he has very little time to impress the new coach in what is a position where he has plenty of rivals, including Thorley himself.

In truth, this was probably nothing, but in future May should probably learn to hide his frustration at not scoring the try himself.

Take a look at his reaction:
