WATCH: Finn Russell’s wild performance against France
Finn Russell entered the game against France on Sunday in high spirits following his man of the match display against Wales in round two of the Guinness Six Nations and an equally impressive game against England at Twickenham.
However, it looked like everything had fallen apart after 20 minutes at the Stade de France as his side were 19-0 thanks to an interception pass thrown by the fly-half. But Russell is the type of No10 that will make mistakes in a match, but equally repay his teammates with moments of brilliance, and his performance in Paris was no different.
After a shaky start, Russell finished the match with a try to his name, an assist and a 100 percent kicking record as Scotland fought back to be within touching distance of a victory, only to lose 32-21.
It was a game of both extremes from the Racing 92 fly-half, and that therefore makes quite a wild highlights reel. Take a look:
Despite the loss, Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend took many positives from his side’s performance ahead of what will probably be the toughest game of their Championship against Ireland at Murrayfield in round four.
“I was very pleased with the performance, I thought it was our best performance of the championship so far,” Townsend said.
“I’m disappointed with the result but proud of how the players played, and proud of how they controlled the situation, the emotions, and how they adapted to being a man down and how much belief they had in each other.
“I’m disappointed we didn’t take the two or three opportunities which would have led to us winning the game.
“I feel we have improved from our previous game, there will be so much which will come out of this game for us. There will be things we have to do better but there will be belief in how we played against one of the best teams in the world at their home stadium.”
