THROWBACK THURSDAY: A look back at the debut of Richie McCaw at just 20 years of age

It is common knowledge now that Richie McCaw is one of the (if not THE) greatest All Black of all time. With 148 appearances for the men in black, McCaw the openside flanker made a name for himself as one of the toughest forwards in the game. But where did it all start…

In 2001, he made his debut for the All Blacks as Landsdowne Road in Dublin where the commentator even mistook his name for Mcann not McCaw.

Even at just 20 he was in the thick of things making a nuisance of himself at the breakdown and in the loose.

It would be hard to find a player today who could make such an imposing performance at that age.
