Dan Cole demands apology after missing out on Premiership try of the season

Whether it was an administrative error or just some overt anti-prop bias, Dan Cole and billions of others across the world are demanding answers today after the Leicester Tigers prop was overlooked for the Gallagher Premiership try of the season.

Cole set up a try for teammate Hanro Liebenberg back in September against Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park, and everyone basically accepted there and then that it would be the try of the season. After all, it consisted of the tighthead leading a kick chase, leaping in the air like a 123kg high jumper to charge down a kick, then producing an offload for the try. What about that does not scream ‘try of the season’?

The try was so good that we assume it was the sole reason why Cole found himself back in the England squad for the Six Nations having spent four years out of Test rugby.

Instead, the try of the season went to Newcastle Falcons winger Mateo Carreras’ boring 70 metre try against Northampton Saints in October, where he weaved past about seven defenders on the way to the try line. Aren’t wingers supposed to do that?

Take a look at that try:
