Faf de Klerk officially reaches the pinnacle of rugby while in Japan

Winning a World Cup is an impressive feat for Springboks scrum-half Faf de Klerk, but then again plenty of other players have done the same, some even twice. But there is one thing the likes of Richie McCaw, Dan Carter or Ma’a Nonu have never achieved that the South African has- having a tangy black pork curry and camembert cheese Kaiten-yaki devoted to them.

Some players have statues, some have murals, some players even have stadia named after them, but everyone knows the pinnacle of rugby, or indeed any sport, is to have your face emblazoned on a pie. After just a matter of months at the Yokohama Canon Eagles, the 31-year-old has reached such lofty heights. Traditionally that is something that happens after maybe a decade of service to a club, usually more. This just goes to show the impact de Klerk has had on the Eagles this season.
