FOOTAGE: Northampton send France timely reminder of what Lawes is capable of

In the absence of Maro Itoje this weekend, Eddie Jones has called upon Courtney Lawes to start at lock for England against France at Twickenham.

The 29-year-old is one of the leading second-rows in the world, and it is widely regarded that he would walk into most other international starting XVs, but had to settle for the bench last week.

Upon his call-up, Lawes’ club Northampton Saints posted a timely reminder on Instagram of what their player is capable of:

Lawes has become renowned as one of the most fearsome tacklers in world rugby, and this brutal tackle on Jules Plisson in 2015 could not sum him up any better.

The 6ft 7 second-row has left many fly-halves in his wake in the past, as Johnny Sexton can attest to last week, and there is no doubt that he will put in some similar bone-crunching hits this weekend, as he launches his frame through the air and times his tackles to perfection.

Jones, and all England fans, will hope for more of the same this Sunday.
