New angle leaves rugby world dumbfounded that Ireland try stood
Sometimes when a try is so good, it is wrong to let the laws of rugby get in the way of it. That was certainly the mentality of the TMO team in Ireland’s win over France on Saturday in the Guinness Six Nations.
James Lowe’s try in the corner was so crazy that it looked as though he must have been out. That is because it was out.
The try was given, but new footage has shown that the Ireland wing’s foot was clearly in touch before grounding the ball. The most bizarre thing is that said angle was not even provided.
Lowe did not look sure after going over, and will be very grateful once he sees that he was in touch. But as lucky as Ireland were there, they were equally unlucky with the decision not to red card Uini Atonio for a clear shoulder to the head with force, with the prop only receiving a yellow.
