WATCH: All Black’s ‘gobsmacked’ reaction finding out Hansen has joined Wallabies

It might be a hard one to stomach for many All Blacks fans, but the mastermind of their 2011 and 2015 World Cup successes, Steve Hansen, has teamed up with his friend Eddie Jones and joined Australia’s coaching staff for the World Cup.

The 64-year-old has joined the Wallabies in an advisory role, presumably on how to win a rugby match after Jones has made a winless start to his second stint in charge of the team.

All Blacks hooker Dane Coles must have summed up how every fan in New Zealand must have been feeling when they found out this news on Monday. The 36-year-old was interviewed during training when he was asked what his opinion on Hansen’s move was. That was news to him though, and his reaction is hilarious as he tried to process the news.

“Yeah!?” Coles said after hearing for the first time. “What, actually? What like in camp kind of set up? Shag, what are you up to? Well it hurts a little bit to be fair. I’m actually gobsmacked. I know he’s quite tight with Eddie, I think they’re pretty good mates. He’s a bit of an icon in the All Blacks set up. I’m a bit speechless, bit disappointing, but there’s not much we can do about that.

“He’s a great man. I’m actually gobsmacked. I thought you guys were having a bit of a laugh. He’s obviously not in the environment at the moment, so we just have to leave it and I suppose hooking up with Eddie hopefully he doesn’t tell him our secrets, but I think he’ll be respectful. You know, if he’s respectful, which I think he will be to the All Blacks, I think there’ll be no problems. That’s me just trying to process what you’ve just said.”
