Xhosa commentary makes Canan Moodie’s debut try infinitely better
If there is one thing that makes Canan Moodie’s try on debut for the Springboks, it is watching it with Xhosa commentary.
The 19-year-old scored before half time in Sydney, leaving Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete looking pretty foolish as he did not even attempt a jump to take a box kick from South Africa. Moodie basically jumped over him to take the ball and run in for a try, as the Boks went on to win 24-8.
It was a dream debut for the Bulls wing, and this is what his coach Jacques Nienaber said after the match:
“I am happy and proud for Canan – he’s been good for his franchise (the Vodacom Bulls), and we’ve been following his performances for a while.
“He is the fourth or fifth wing we’ve played this year, and it is tough on teams, but at the same time it gives us answers with an eye on the Rugby World Cup.”
Already a video has been shared online of his family celebrating the try:

Looking back on the two Tests against the Wallabies, Nienaber said: “Last week we created opportunities and didn’t take them and that was better tonight.
“We also weren’t happy with the intensity last week and are pleased that we also made a big step-up in that regard tonight.”
“We have played here five times as a group and this is the first time we have won, and we are very pleased that we could change our fortunes here.
“It was also good to see the players who received a chance to play use their opportunities. We placed a lot of pressure on ourselves internally to get things right this week.”
