Cheslin Kolbe scores the exact same try as his idol Darcy Graham
Cheslin Kolbe looks to be getting sharper with every game played after making his return three matches ago from a broken jaw, and he opened the scoring for Toulon on Saturday against Castres at the Stade Mayol.
But he has a long way to go to be up there with some of the form wingers in the game at the moment, one of which is the United Rugby Championship’s top scorer Darcy Graham. The Edinburgh wing has scored eight tries in six games so far this season and has continued to fly the flag for diminutive wingers in scrum-caps in Kolbe’s absence.
The similarity between the two does not end there either, as Kolbe’s try at the weekend was more or less identical to a try scored by Graham at the beginning of the month. Both players ended up scoring in the right corner after being on the receiving end of two on ones. But for right wingers that it not too uncommon of course. What made these tries strikingly similar was the step that both players produced to trick the onrushing tackler.
With little space to operate in, Kolbe and Graham both cut in and out slightly to stop the last man in their tracks. That gave them both enough space to dive into the corner. It was some elite sidestepping shown by them.
Take a look at the two tries, here is Graham’s against the Lions earlier this month:
