Scotland prop celebrates win over England with monster bench press
It is a scary thought for Scotland’s Six Nations opponents to think what their playing props can bench press after a video of Rory Sutherland’s antics in the gym surfaced this week.
The Ulster prop missed out on Gregor Townsend’s team that were victorious over England at Twickenham in the opening round of the Guinness Six Nations, with Pierre Schoeman starting and Jamie Bhatti on the bench, but that at least gave him the opportunity to go heavy at the bench this week.
Scotland shared a video of the 2021 British & Irish comfortably repping 170kg, which is just a little warning to the Welsh front row ahead of their visit to Murrayfield this Saturday.

As impressive as Scotland’s win over England was, they have been in this situation before heading into a round two clash with Wales. Recent history shows us that they have fallen short come round two, so Scotland captain Jamie Ritchie emphasised that his side must back up their victory this coming weekend against a Wales side that suffered a 34-10 home loss to Ireland in round one.
“It’s just the start,” said the Edinburgh flanker.
“We’re delighted to win and retain the Calcutta Cup but we’ve been in this position before and not backed it up so for us now it’s enjoy each other’s company and enjoy this victory but come Monday we’re starting again and ready to go.
“It was the first thing we spoke about in the huddle after the win, we all came together and said, ‘look, we’ve been in this position before and we’ve not backed it up’ and that for us is the most important thing.
“A strong tournament for us is five good performances so we will be looking for another one next week.”
