Woeful tackle technique results in Bok sensation getting smashed by 112kg rival
No matter how much upper body strength you have, it is never a good idea going high on Bulls flanker Cyle Brink.
The 112kg former Leicester Tigers flanker is a brute of a ball carrier, and even though Stormers No8 Evan Roos is freakishly strong himself, he paid the price for some poor tackle technique in the United Rugby Championship quarter-final at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
Brink smashed the Springboks sensation to the ground in the 13th minute of the match, but it was the Stormers who made the greater impact in the first half after opening up a 17-7 lead at half time in the South African derby and repeat of last season’s final, which the Stormers also won.

Stormers head coach John Dobson said before the match: “We will have our biggest crowd of the season for a North-South knock-out game, so this is something everyone has been looking forward to. To have hosted a Heineken Champions Cup play-off, retain the SA Shield and have a home BKT United Rugby Championship quarterfinal on top of capping as many players as we have means a lot to us. We are really excited about the future and the new generation of players coming through, but right now it’s all about Saturday.
