England cannot ignore uncapped wing after behind-the-scenes solo effort in camp

Harlequins winger Cadan Murley must have thought he was destined to earn his first England cap during the Six Nations after frequently being called into Steve Borthwick’s squad.

While that never materialised, he went back to Quins and finished the season as the Gallagher Premiership’s top try scorer, while also making the most clean breaks. As expected, he has been back in the England training squad over the past few weeks as they prepare for the World Cup.

The 23-year-old has made it into the 36-man squad to train at The Lensbury this week and that may largely be down to his efforts at Pennyhill Park. In footage captured during England’s training session there two weeks ago, Murley looked on fire with ball in hand, producing a weaving run that showed his pace, balance and even had a cheeky dummy in there. It must be noted that one of the players that he skinned was tighthead Will Stuart, but that happens in rugby all the time and the game is ultimately all about spotting mismatches.
