All Black Savea explains how he got into the best shape of his career

Hurricanes and former All Blacks winger Julian Savea has explained how he has achieved his crazy body transformation and got into the best shape of his career ahead of this Super Rugby Pacific season.

While some might argue what the ‘best shape’ is for a rugby player, there is no denying that the 31-year-old is the trimmest and fittest he has ever been, shown by his personal best Bronco time in preseason.

The 54-cap All Black was answering some fans’ questions on Twitter last night, and was asked how he has reached this level. He replied: “Discipline has been a big factor the last two years. I do intermittent fasting daily, cut food portions and had a daily training schedule throughout the holidays and cut alcohol through summer.”

After starting on the wing last week in a loss against the Crusaders in round one of Super Rugby, Savea will experience another transformation this Saturday as he changes position against the Blues. He will start in the No12 shirt, lining up against debutant Roger Tuivasa-Scheck, who will play his much anticipated first Super Rugby match since switching from rugby league last year.
