Bizarre Marcus Smith tactic gets immediately shut down by Nic Berry

Maybe England had one of the craziest tactics of all time up their sleeve, maybe fly-half Marcus Smith completely forgot the laws of rugby, but the No10 went rogue against Wales on Saturday at the Principality Stadium.

It was England’s scrum just inside Wales’ 22 when the Harlequin decided to run over and join the action despite the clear laws that players not part of the scrum other than the scrum-half must be five metres behind the scrum. He was probably trying to pass a message on to his club and country No9 Danny Care, but it led to a bizarre interaction with referee Nic Berry.

Berry had already made the ‘Bind’ call for the scrum when Smith was right in front of him. The referee was as confused as any referee would be, turning and saying “what are you doing? Get out!”
