Black Ferns debutante scores serious try of the year contender vs Wallaroos
There are not many better sights in rugby that forwards and backs linking up perfectly to score a try, a few teams could do a better job than the Black Ferns did against Australia in the opening round of the Pacific Four Series at Dolphin Stadium.
The only thing that can make such teamwork even better is when it is topped off by some individual magic and that is what made the Black Ferns’ try go from nice to seriously, seriously nice on Thursday.
After the ball was worked wide to debutante Chiefs Manawa wing Mererangi Paul, there was still a lot of work for her to do. But one chip and chase later she was going over for her first try for New Zealand to cap off a dominant first half for her side and give them a 26-0 lead. Yes, it relied on a fortuitous bounce of the ball, but that is rugby for you.
Take a look at the try:
Imagine doing THIS on debut 🤩
We could watch this cheeky chip over the top from Mererangi Paul all day 🙌#PacificFour2023 | @BlackFerns pic.twitter.com/zuaLoS9hoG
