Bordeaux forget they have to play the best team in Europe
Bordeaux-Begles entered their Top 14 quarter final against Lyon as underdogs on Sunday, and even more so when they were trailing at half time. Therefore it makes their 32-25 win all the sweeter for them.
The pitch side celebrations on the final whistle showed what it meant to Bordeaux, who finished the Top 14 season in sixth place. But the celebrations did not just end there as footage has been shared this week of the team celebrating at the airport that evening. Specifically, the team were conga-ing into the aeroplane.
The bad news for the team is the challenges get harder from here. Much harder. Now Bordeaux have to travel to the Stade Marcel Deflandre on Saturday to take on reigning Heineken Champions Cup winners La Rochelle. Very few teams have celebrated having to play the best team in Europe quite like Bordeaux did. Even if they get past that challenge, it will then be one of Toulouse or Racing 92 in the final. Let’s just hope they didn’t celebrate the win over Lyon too hard.
