Ex Bok hopeful makes case for being fastest player in the game

This time last year there was quite a furore about the eligibility of Bordeaux Begles winger Madosh Tambwe and whether he was able to represent South Africa.

After a stellar season in the Top 14, it was determined that the Congolese-born speedster was not able to represent the Springboks as he did not have a South African passport. This was despite being schooled in South Africa.

A year has now passed and not a lot has changed. There has been no breakthrough on the eligibility front and equally Tambwe is still playing at an absurd standard. His try in the Top 14 quarter-final against Lyon on Sunday summed up the level he is playing at.

The 26-year-old had absolutely no right to score the try he did in the second half – no one in world rugby had the right to score that try, let alone make it look so easy.

The pace he showed to skin half the Lyon back line was quite something and helped make a case that he might well be one of, if not the, quickest player in rugby union currently.
