Ex British & Irish Lion enforcer calls out James Haskell for a fight

Move aside Jake Paul, there is a new celebrity boxing match that everyone wants to see and it involves two former British & Irish Lions back rows.

The rugby world has been licking its lips today at the thought of former Wales No8 Andy Powell and former England flanker James Haskell stepping into the ring to fight each other. That is about 230kg of muscle and aggression.

This comes after Powell called out Haskell on X on Sunday in order to “raise some money for charity,” adding that it is “what the public want.”

He wrote: “I’m getting myself back into training for a boxing match @jameshaskell. Are you up for it let’s raise some money for charity and fill a stadium!! This is what the public want don’t be scared.”

Even thought Haskell is three years younger than his Welsh counterpart, was heavier during their playing days and was even going to become a professional mixed martial arts fighter, the thought of stepping into the ring with the former Wales enforcer is surely not a pleasant one. Powell never hid his physicality and aggression on a rugby pitch and it is unlikely that he will become a shrinking violet when donning boxing gloves.

Take a look at what he wrote:

Powell is clearly feeling buoyant at the moment after Wales triumphed over England on Saturday 20-9 at the Principality Stadium in their first World Cup warm-up. The two sides face each other again this weekend at Twickenham. Haskell might wait for the result of that match before deciding to take Powell up on his offer or not.
