Italy’s coaches left gobsmacked by their side’s try butchering masterclass

Sometimes a picture paints a thousand words, but sometimes you only need seven words: ‘How did Italy not score from there?’

The Italians spent the first half on Saturday against Wales in the Guinness Six Nations finding new and inventive ways to butcher tries. None more so than this situation:

When looking at that picture, it seems impossible to believe that Italy somehow failed to score that try, but they did somehow. Lock Federico Ruzza had two players to pass to there, but opted to go alone. Even then, centre Juan Ignacio Brex was painstakingly prevented from scoring.

This came in a half where Tommaso Allan had also butchered a chance for Italy to score earlier in the half, while Wales took their chances perfectly and went in at half time in Rome 22-3 up.
