The video everyone must see before writing off the All Blacks

Since South Africa triumphed over the All Blacks 26-10 last Saturday, their biggest win over them in 94 years, everyone and their dog has been writing off Ian Foster’s side in their rematch this Saturday at Ellis Park.

Plenty of fans, players and pundits have said that the All Blacks were bullied up front at the Mbombela Stadium, and the same will happen again in Johannesburg.

However, a video is circulating on Twitter that seems to tell a different story. The video shows former Springboks assistant coach Swys de Bruin saying after the match that the visitors’ defence was “not very good,” and then is followed by a montage or carries and tackles by the All Blacks where they had the physical upper hand. These consisted of tackles that stopped South African carriers dead in their tracks or even forced a ball spillage, or times when All Black carriers were able to break free of tackles.

These are just a handful of tackles from a combined 272 attempted tackles in the match, so it does not paint the full picture. But it does indicate that the All Blacks were not entirely steamrollered, and perhaps why Foster was actually quite complimentary of his side after the match.
