Uncapped 145kg beast spotted in France camp this week

France had a new addition in their training camp this week as they prepare to take on Wales in round five of the Guinness Six Nations in Paris. Well, they actually had 14 new additions, but one was more noticeable than others- uncapped Emmanuel Meafou

This is a particularly interesting selection by Fabien Galthie as the Australian-born Toulouse lock is not actually qualified to play for France yet, nor will he be at the World Cup later this year. The 24-year-old’s decision to represent France has been well documented over the past year, but it was a bit of a damp squib to find out that he will not be available for the global showcase in September.

However, Glathie clearly has an eye on the future, and is getting the 145kg familiar with the France camp for his introduction to Test rugby, which is likely to come next Six Nations.

France shared a video of the lock training in the gym this week, while also sharing photos of him as well with the squad. Take a look:

France will be looking to end their Six Nations on a high against a Wales side that will arrive at the Stade de France on the back of their first win in the Championship this year, against Italy in Rome. Being scheduled to play second on Super Saturday, France can briefly ascend to the top of the Six Nations table on Saturday with a bonus point win over Wales. Then they will be hoping that England can produce an upset of all upsets against Grand Slam chasing Ireland in Dublin, although that is about as likely as Meafou suddenly being allowed to play for France.

Here are the 14 players added to the France squad:
ATONIO Uini
BOUDEHENT Paul
HEGUY Baptiste
LAVAULT Thomas
MEAFOU Emmanuel

VERGNES-TAILLEFER Bastien
ZEGUEUR Sacha
