Wallabies share promo that is guaranteed to anger every Springboks fan
If the thought of Eddie Jones and Rassie Erasmus going head to head in the Rugby Championship this week was not enough for Australia and South Africa fans, the Wallabies thought they might just stir the pot a little.
With the first match of the Rugby Championship set to kick off this Saturday (Sunday morning in Australia) in Pretoria, the Wallabies thought they might do a might of promoting. However, they decided to use one of the most controversial moments last season between the two teams.
After Nic White’s infamous collapse to the ground to get Faf de Klerk yellow carded, Marika Koroibete’s dubious covering tackle to stop Makazole Mapimpi scoring in Adelaide was the most contentious moment in Tests between the two sides last year. So, just to stoke the fire, the Wallabies decided to use the image of Koroibete clattering into Mapimpi, with little or no effort to wrap his arms, as the image for their promotion. Now if that is not gamesmanship and the subtle art of trying to wind up your opponents, it is hard to know what it.
This incident angered many a Bok fan last year, so the resurfacing of that moment is only going to infuriate them again. Then again, that may not necessarily be a wise move before heading to Loftus Versfeld- a ground the Wallabies have never won at. But this is a new era under Jones, and while he was probably not responsible for the promotion, it is something that Jones himself would be proud of.
