Wallaby reaches new low in rugby against the Springboks
Nic White should feel an odd combination of pride and shame at the moment after his antics against South Africa in the Rugby Championship.
The Wallabies scrum-half milked an incident between him and his opposite man Faf de Klerk so hard in the first half in Adelaide that he not only won a penalty, but actually got the Bok yellow carded.
The incident in question was as innocuous as they come. With Australia putting into the scrum five metres from their own line, de Klerk tried to have a swipe at the ball as White picked up from the base, but instead lightly brushed his face. White began to run with the ball, but then had a stroke of genius and decided to put on the theatrics, falling on the floor in agony with some acting that belongs in another sport.
De Klerk could not quite believe it when referee Paul Williams pulled out the yellow card. At the end of the day though, this may just go down as expert scrum-half gamesmanship. Maybe, if you touch another man’s moustache, you must pay the price.
