WATCH: Horror carry was surely the easiest red card of the season

As far as debuts go for a team, they do not get much worse than Hugo Salabio’s for Wakefield Trinity on Sunday in the Super League.

The Frenchman was red carded early in the second half at Belle Vue in bizarre circumstances- the likes of which are rarely seen on a pitch. The 22-year-old was dismissed effectively for a spear tackle, which is not that odd, however, he was the ball carrier at the time.

After receiving the ball from a standing start, Salabio had Leeds Rhino’s Richie Myler rushing towards him and tackling him before he could even take a step forward. But Salabio used his 20kg weight advantage to pick Myler up and slam him on his neck all while still having the ball in his hands.

Fortunately Myler got straight back to his feet, but it was a bizarre passage of play. Even though he was the ball carrier, not the tackler, there is still no excusing dangerous play like that in what was one of the most straight forward red cards you will see all season.
