Alun Wyn Jones unveils revolutionary new kick before final international match
After test career that spanned 17 years and saw him earn a record 170 caps for both Wales and the British & Irish Lions, Alun Wyn Jones is bringing his international career to a close on Sunday at Twickenham as he captains the Barbarians against the World XV.
In typical Barbarians fashion this week, the lock was practicing his goal kicking, which seems to be mandatory for any second row playing in this fixture.
After the legendary back heel kick that George Kruis produced last year for the BaaBaas against his former England side, the Welshman knew he had to up his game this year and has done so in unique fashion.
Why Jones has waited so long to introduce the world to this revolutionary kick we do not know, but in training this week the 37-year-old unveiled the new kick that is going to take the world by storm, labeled ‘the sideways toe punt backspin penalty goal’.
The bizarre thing about this kick is that it seems to continue rising the further it goes. Does it have a practical use in the game of rugby? Absolutely not, it’s basically useless. But does it look good? Very much so and it also allows locks to kick which is something the game is crying out for.
Take a look at his bizarre kick:
