Cowan-Dickie confirms move to Premiership club with hilarious post

It has been quite a rollercoaster few months for England hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie.

The hooker was set to leave Exeter Chiefs to join Montpellier at the end of the season, but that move fell through after failing a medical due to a neck injury. Since then, there has been plenty of speculation about his future.

To add insult to (literal) injury last week, the 30-year-old missed out on Steve Borthwick’s England training squad last week due to a shoulder injury.

But things have picked up for the England international this week, with rumours emerging that he has signed for Sale Sharks after weeks of speculation. While the club have not confirmed it, Cowan-Dickie himself might have dropped a major hint on social media.

The 2021 British & Irish Lion shared a photo of a navy blue bucket hat (the colours of Sale Sharks) alongside a pie and a can of Manchester’s own Boddingtons Bitter. With the photo, the caption said: “I never really liked croissants anyway…” That has to go down as the best way any player has ever revealed they are moving to Sale.

Take a look:

Ahead of his departure from the Chiefs, Cowan-Dickie told the club’s website: “It’s gutting to be leaving.

“Since I arrived all those years ago, I’ve had some unbelievable memories and made friends for life. For me, this is the most important year of my Chiefs career because it’s my last. The club, the people, the supporters, they’ve all done so much for me and I’m excited to get out there and put my best foot forward.

“Coming to Exeter was the best thing to happen to me. When I first signed I was excited and looked up to those senior boys. At the time it was just my dream to play first team with my mates – that was my main goal. What has happened since has been stuff of dreams, so to get to the top level of the game with the Chiefs means a lot to me.”
