Ardie Savea discards 120kg lock in brutal fashion

Maybe it was everything that has transpired over the last couple of weeks regarding his ban, maybe it is all the chat around Ireland’s Caelan Doris and France’s Gregory Alldritt being the best No8s in the world, but Ardie Savea was on fire on Saturday as the Hurricanes breezed past Moana Pasifika 59-0.

When a team wins 59-0, more or less everyone on the pitch is going to be on fire, but Savea had a few moments that were outstanding, none more so that his handling of opposing lock Mike McKee.

McKee would have thought that he had a chance to put a big shot in on the All Blacks No8, as he had basically been ground to a halt while being tackled in Pasifika’s 22. What he probably did not account for was Savea’s brutal upper body strength. The No8 was able to throw McKee away as if he were swatting away a fly- a 120kg fly.

It was a crazy feat of strength, and summed up his performance, as he also bagged a try in the second half as well.
