Former All Black has surely received the stupidest red card in history
In a day and age where red cards can be quite divisive and debatable, Perpignan winger George Tilsley’s was not.
The question is, what did the former All Blacks Sevens international think would happen when he randomly stamped on Stade Francais’ Morgan Parra. It’s just not allowed and there are cameras all round the pitch.
This was not completely unprovoked, as Parra was competing for the ball at a ruck. But that does not give a player licence to do whatever they want to said player. The 30-year-old simply stamped on the arm of the France international, and then momentarily stood on the arm with his boot. Worse still, he was barely bound to the ruck!
Parra was of course not happy with that treatment, and he immediately launched at Tilsley before insisting the TMO gets involved to look at the stamp. A few minutes later, referee Pierre William Van Bost was showing him a red, and he cannot have too many complaints about it given how stupid the whole incident was.
Take a look at the red card:
The red came in the 67th minute of the match, but bottom of the table Perpignan were able to come away with the victory against second place Stade Francais. That result means Perpignan have closed the gap between them and Pau and Brive above them, who both lost at the weekend. Stade Francais’ loss now means there is an eight point gap between them and leaders Toulouse.
