England No8 goes rogue with Carlos Spencer-inspired trick v Barbarians

It was just a good old fashioned ‘No8 stands at first receiver from a maul, turns his back to the defence and produces an overhead kick’ move on Thursday night as Harlequins hosted the Barbarians, nothing special.

That move might sound crazy, but in a 73-28 win for Quins at the Stoop, where locks were assisting tries with grubber kicks, props were scoring tries and taking conversions, that little kick from Quins’ captain on the night Alex Dombrandt seems fairly tame.

Unfortunately for the England No8, the kick didn’t really go to plan either as the Baa Baas were able to launch a counterattack from it. Then again, when you’re leading 61-28, there is no better time or place to try out that move. However, it might be shelved when he finds himself back in the England camp.
