Proof that this is undeniably the best player in the Premiership
You know a player is having a good season when they are at the summit of almost every important attacking stat there is.
Tries scored, metres gained, clean breaks and defenders beaten are some pretty fundamental stats in rugby, and Newcastle Falcons and Argentina winger Mateo Carreras just happens to be at the top of the all of them this season in the Gallagher Premiership.
Stats are one thing, but they can sometimes be misleading. Sometimes a player does not have the greatest stats, but is clearly a good player. Well Carreras seems to be excelling in both departments this season.
Newcastle recently shared a video of all his eleven tries this season in the Premiership and these are not simply stat-padding tries. A try count can sometimes be a bit misleading, largely because some forwards happen to be at the end of driving mauls a lot and therefore score a tonne of tries. On the other hand, Carreras has been scoring length of the field, solo efforts consistently this season. The video is a pretty compelling case that he is the form player in the league right now. Of course, the Argentine was exhibiting his form in the most recent round of action at Kingston Park, scoring a hat trick against reigning champions Leicester Tigers.
