Saracens go too far with trolling of Springbok Willie le Roux after new signing

What did Willie le Roux ever do to Saracens? We do not know, but it must have been serious for the Gallagher Premiership champions to launch one of the most brutal online attacks on the South Africa fullback ever recorded.

It is all well and good for Saracens to announce the signing of Argentina flanker Juan Martin Gonzalez from the now-suspended London Irish, but to announce it by bringing up one of the most humiliating moments of le Roux’s career is below the belt.

It just so happens for le Roux that the lowest moment of his career is probably the greatest moment of Gonzalez’s, when the flanker stepped the fullback at Kings Park Stadium in the Rugby Championship on the way to scoring a try. This was not just any old sidestep though, as le Roux failed to even lay a finger on the 22-year-old.

Saracens wasted no time in sharing a clip of this try, and le Roux has no doubt already been on the phone to his lawyers to try and get the video removed from the Internet.

Take a look at the try:

Gonzalez is now the fourth player the English champions have picked up from London Irish since they went into administration alongside prop Ollie Hoskins, centre (and Gonzalez’s compatriot) Lucio Cinti and fullback Tom Parton (although his signing was announced a while ago).

Upon signing for Saracens, the Argentine said on Saracens’ website:  “I am very excited to meet the players and the fans. I will give everything to make sure the team goes well!”

Director of rugby Mark McCall added: “Juan is a player who we are very excited about. He has shown his ability in the Premiership over the past couple of seasons and we believe he has his best rugby ahead of him.”
