Springboks’ World Cup dream is over as titans miss out on official squad

The Springboks have spent the last year trying to find the best back-up for Handre Pollard, but have been fairly fruitless in their search. There are good players, but none that suit the team as the 2019 World Cup winning flyhalf does.

Well, that back-up has now been promoted after Pollard missed out on Jacques Nienaber’s 33-man Springboks squad today. The flyhalf has had a calf injury in recent weeks, and joins a list of 2019 titans that will not travel to France, which also includes Lukhanyo Am and Lood de Jager.

The Boks without Pollard are a completely different beast to a Boks side with him, and deep down every fan knows this. As far as absences go, they do not get any worse for the Boks, especially ahead of a World Cup where they are in a pool with world number ones Ireland, and will face one of France and the All Blacks in the quarter-finals.
