The moment that left Bath asking for a refund days after buying Finn Russell

Any team picking or buying Finn Russell know what they are going to get from the Scotland fly-half, or maybe more accurately they know that they are not going to know what they get from him.

As capable as the British & Irish Lion is of world class brilliance, he is also prone to the odd brain fade. Bath supporters might have found that out the hard way recently.

Just days after the 30-year-old’s move to Bath was announced last month he was showing his full bag of tricks in the Paris derby for Racing 92 against Stade Francais.

There was a moment in the first half at La Defense Arena that would have left everyone gobsmacked. Sometimes no look passes pay off, but sometimes they look like they sound- a pass where the passer has not looked where they are passing. That was the case in the first half against Stade Francais, where Russell kindly fired a pass straight into the midriff of Sekou Macalou, who graciously accepted the pass and scored.

Take a look:

Not long after that though Russell was showing his class again with a chip to create a try for half back partner Nolann Le Garrec. Macalou even fumbled the ball on the way to Racing’s try, which was a bit of revenge for Russell. This was on the way to Stade Francais winning 48-10. Take a look:

On his move to Bath Russell said: “To be able to join such a historic, well-supported club is really exciting.

“I know players at Bath who speak highly of the environment, and the direction the club is going in is something I want to be a part of.
“I’ve enjoyed my time at Racing 92 and I’ve learned a lot. Now is the right time for a new challenge, in a new league, with the aim of moving Bath back to the top end of the Premiership and competing for domestic and European titles.”
