‘The next Antoine Dupont’ creates ultimate Dupont-esque try
Over the last 18 months, Racing 92 scrum-half Nolann Le Garrec has emerged as Antoine Dupont’s long term rival and successor for the France No9 jersey.
Having just turned 21 in April, this World Cup has come too early for Le Garrec, but the next World Cup cycle is where plenty have tipped the Racing man to rival Dupont. However, with the France captain at the peak of his powers and only 26 currently, the way that will pan out will probably be Le Garrec sitting on the bench a lot.
But Le Garrec is proving week on week that he is quite a handy understudy for Dupont to have. In fact, Dupont could not have done any better at the weekend than the 21-year-old’s try assist in the first half against Pau. Le Garrec set up a try for centre Francis Saili with a deft chip kick over the defence. But the way Le Garrec surveyed the field and identified the space before kicking the ball was Dupont-esque as plays come.
