This video of Owen Farrell practising tackling in training is worrying England fans
You become what you practice, and it seems Owen Farrell is practicing chest-high, red card tackling in training.
Despite being 30, proper tackling technique has managed to elude Farrell his entire adult life. This was once against demonstrated with Farrell practicing chest-high, ball-and-all tackling in training.
This technique would have been fine a few years ago, but how likely is this to lead to a yellow or red card in live play? Highly, we’d say, even if Farrell is wearing the invisibility cloak he stole from the All Blacks during the semi-final of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
Even All Black cloaking technology has its limits Owen.
What you also notice is that despite hitting a tackle bag, a clearly fearful Farrell crosses himself before doing it. Is he that afraid of a tackle bag? Even wee Georgie Ford – who stopped growing at 13 – isn’t afraid of a tackle bag.
