Unexpected rival emerges for Mo’unga’s All Blacks No10 shirt
With the All Blacks stuck in a bubble during this year’s Rugby Championship in Australia, it only seems right that they transform flanker Ethan Blackadder into a world class fly-half.
A video was shared this week of an All Blacks training session where the 26-year-old executed a perfect left footed drop goal that Jonny Wilkinson himself would have been proud off. To top it off, he dummied on his right foot first, convincing anyone that he was a seasoned No10.

Just last year in the first Bledisloe Cup Test, the All Blacks and the Wallabies produced a masterclass in spurning match-winning drop goal opportunities in their 16-16 encounter. Maybe that is in the back of the team’s mind heading into a clash with the Wallabies this Sunday in Perth, which is why they have all been brushing up on their drop goals.
Although the previous two Beldisloe Cup Tests have not suggested this weekend’s match could be decided by a winning kick for either team, Ian Foster may still have been working out who is the ideal man to sit in the pocket to kick the three points in the closing stages. Richie Mo’unga is not part of the squad that travelled to Australia to take on the Wallabies, meaning Blackadder may have to step up to the plate for the win.
