WATCH: Anthony Watson on possible NFL move
In an interview with Rugby Union Weekly, the Bath and England fullback made no secret of his interest to one day play in the NFL.
New York Giants fan Anthony Watson was given a hypothetical situation by Danny Care and Ugo Monye where the winger/fullback was offered an NFL contract after the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
“I’d like to give it a shot potentially,” said Watson
“I’d need to get more information about the sport and what it takes before I made that jump but it’s definitely something I’d be interested in.”
Watson has stated his intent prior to this when speaking to the Mirror before the Lions second test against the All Blacks last Summer.
“The NFL is definitely something I would consider,” said the New York Giants fan.
“The NFL is huge and I can’t deny it is definitely something that would interest me.”

Speaking about the pomp and ceremony stateside Watson said: “I love the way athletes express themselves over there.”
“I like seeing people having fun.”
“That’s why we all played sport in the first place.”
“And we are now in the entertainment business.”
“That’s why I never had any issues with, say, Chris Ashton’s swallow dive.”
“Some thought it was arrogant, I completely disagree, let him enjoy himself, let him celebrate.”
At the age of just 19, after a string of impressive performances for Bath at full-back, Watson was called into the England squad to train with them before their autumn international against Argentina on 9 November 2013.
Watson made his England debut in a non-cap friendly against the Crusaders as part of their tour against New Zealand, making his official Test debut for England on the 8th of November 2014, from the bench, losing to New Zealand 21-24 as part of their 2014 Autumn Internationals.
Watson was named in Stuart Lancaster’s 31-man squad for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, picked to start in all four of England’s games, scoring three tries in total as the hosts crashed out in the group stages.
Watson was named as one of the 41 British and Irish Lions to tour New Zealand in summer 2017 and started all three tests against the All Blacks.
