Dropped England star sends strong message after missing World Cup cut
Luke Cowan-Dickie has said that “gutted is an understatement” after missing out on England’s official 41-man training squad that will prepare for the World Cup.
A shoulder injury for the departing Exeter Chiefs hooker has forced Steve Borthwick to go with Jamie George, Jamie Blamire and the uncapped Saracen Theo Dan instead, with Jack Walker in camp for rehabilitation.
In a Twitter post soon after the news broke, the 30-year-old wrote “Everything happens for a reason ! Gutted is an understatement, I’ll be back.”
This post does suggest at the same time that Cowan-Dickie’s likely destination is in England after his move to Montpellier fell through. A move to Sale Sharks has been rumoured, and with Akker van der Merwe also leaving the Sharks, that move looks increasingly likely.
